The Bear Den is for cub scouts who are in the third grade.

Hello Bear Parents!

Here, on this page, is where I’ll be mainly communicating to all of you what the Bears will  be doing to earn their rank.

Some of these Achievements will need to be done at home, with their families.  Many of these can be done at Den Meetings, and some will be done on Den outings and weekend get-togethers.

The first thing the new Bears will need to do is to earn their Bobcat rank.  We’re more than halfway there already, and should have this finished by our next Den Meeting on October 26.  At that Den Meeting, the boys should all have read “How Baloo Taught Mowgli the Law of the Pack” on page 9 of the Bear Handbook.  We will be learning the Cub Scout Law of the Pack and the Motto, and that will have earned the boys their Bobcat Rank.

The Achievements that the boys will need to complete at home with you are:

Achievement 1: Ways We Worship,  Achievement 9: What’s Cooking and Achievement 13: Saving Well, Spending Well.  These three Achievements should be completed by the Den Meeting on December 7.  When your Bear has finished each part, please sign on the lines that say “Akela’s OK” and put the date. 

For our Den Meeting on November 9, the boys will be completing Achievement 15: Games, Games, Games! (page 126 in the Handbook).  For this meeting we’ll be doing Requirement 15c on page 129.   To do this, each boy will need to choose a game to play with the Den.  Help your Bear try to think of a game, doing any necessary preparation at home.  The game should be appropriate for up to 10 children of their age group.

Den Outings are always fun and the boys have such a good time!  For this year, we’re planning on going bowling, visiting the Police Station, taking a trip to Latta Plantation, attending a game at one of the local High Schools and more!  Details on all of these trips will be given a few weeks prior, so everyone has time to fit us into your schedules
