Toy Drive

Each year, Pack 19 hosts a toy drive during the December pack meeting; its become a Pack 19 tradition!

Monday, December 8th will be our next pack meeting.  For that meeting, we ask that each scout bring a new, unwrapped toy for a boy or girl.  The amount you spend is up to you.  We only ask that your son be part of the process in choosing a new toy to give to another child that is less fortunate.

At the meeting, he will be able to donate it in exchange for a new pinewood derby car kit!

Upcoming Service Project - Certified Schoolyard Habitat

This year, our pack would like to do an environmental service project.  Specifically, we’d like to explore what we can do to have Kensington certified as a schoolyard habitat!   For those of you that were with us for Monday night’s Pack Meeting, the same principles Carol Buie-Jackson presented for the backyard habitats will apply, just on a slightly larger scale.

Here’s a link for more information on schoolyard habitats: http://www.ncwildlifefederation.org/programs/programfiles/syhabitat.htm

This is a conservation project that our pack can continue to work on for years to come.  We want to get it off to a solid start; we’d like to put together a small committee to explore the opportunities available to us, present the idea to Kensington, and determine cost and funding opportunities.  If you enjoy working outdoors, you like to garden, or you just want to play a small part in preserving habitat space, this volunteer opportunity is for you!

Please contact your den leader or me if you’d like to volunteer your time.  This is a meaningful cause that all our children, and many others, can benefit from.  Without help from our families, we won’t be able to undertake this very worthwhile project, so please volunteer your time.

Creating Backyard Habitats

We had a great Pack meeting on November 10. Our special guest was Carol Buie-Jackson from the NC Wildlife Federation. She talked to the boys and their parents about creating backyard habitats! Its a great way for the boys to keep all the little critters they love so well in their yard while we provide much needed habitat space for animals. She described ways to provide the four basic needs for animals: Food, water, shelter, and a place to raise young.

Our thanks goes out to Carol for a great presentation!

Southern Breezes Farms Outing

On Sunday, Nov 9, the Wolf den and both Webelos dens visited the Southern Breezes Farms, which is about 5 miles south of Monroe. There was a horse-drawn wagon ride, panning for gems, mini golf, and several 1800s “wild west” replica buildings.

Tiger Field Day

On Saturday, October 4, the Tigers attended the Tiger Field Day at Camp Barnhardt. It was a day packed with fun activities, including Bow and Arrow, BB guns, Crafts, Aquaball and other fun stuff. In the afternoon, a Black Hawk helicopter landed and stayed for the afternoon, giving a wonderful opportunity for the Tigers to meet the crew and explore the aircraft.

Cub Scout Pack 19 is chartered by Kensington Elementary School in Waxhaw, NC. We are part of the Union County District, and the Central NC Council.
